Taiko (traditional Japanese drum) is an instrument, which is often used
on events and rituals throughout in Japan. For Narita Taiko Festival, Japanese
drum groups gather from all over the country to perform. Approximately
50 groups, that are composed of roughly 1500 people, take part in this
two-day festival to perform different techniques and playing styles that
are representative of their part of Japan. Exhibitions and performances
take place at various spots throughout on the Omotesando Road and in front
of Shinshoji Temple. The sound of over 700 people drumming in unison early
in the morning in front of Shinshoji is a sight not to be missed! The sound
carries for over 10 kilometers and it is a truly breathtaking festival!
